How to recognize and avoid stress?

| By Scharon

Stress symptoms are important signals from your body that your limit has been reached. When you overextend yourself, your body becomes overloaded, which negatively affects your fitness and alertness. Stress manifests itself in a variety of symptoms, both mental and physical, and can alter your behavior toward others. Fortunately, there are effective ways to avoid stress, such as exercise, healthy eating and a positive mindset. Stress can occur with various events, such as during your job or even before childbirth.

7 recognizable symptoms of stress

Excessive eating and weight gain: People under stress often tend to eat more than necessary, which can lead to weight gain. They often do not realize they have gained a few pounds until afterwards, which then becomes an additional stressor.

Increased alcohol consumption: In response to stress, some people drink more alcohol, which, however, does not solve the stress problem. Problems such as relationship problems may underlie this.

Loss of sense of humor: A sudden loss of your humor and positive attitude can be a sign of stress. People around you may notice this as a change in your behavior.

Increased coffee consumption: When stressed, people often reach for extra cups of coffee to stay awake and alert. However, this can worsen stress symptoms rather than relieve them.

Increased anger and aggression: Stress can lead to unnecessary anger and aggressive reactions, even without immediate cause. This can be confusing to others around you.

Constant fatigue, even after sleep: Stress can lead to insomnia due to fretting, so you continue to experience fatigue. This can become a vicious cycle where you fail to rest.

Indecision or procrastination: Under stress, it is more difficult to make informed decisions, both at home and at work. Even small decisions seem insurmountable.

How to prevent or avoid stress?

Healthy diet: A balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, fish and grains can help your body cope better with stress. Avoid fast food and fatty foods, as they can negatively affect your mental well-being.

Regular exercise: Exercise is an excellent way to reduce stress. It helps release endorphins and improves your overall energy balance.

Positive mindset: Always try to see the positive in situations, as this can help reduce stress. Negative thoughts can actually worsen stress.

Stress at work: Work stress can be reduced by taking regular breaks, setting priorities and creating a supportive work environment without conflict.

Stress before delivery: Make a to-do list for the important tasks before delivery, such as arranging birth announcements and choosing godparents. This can help keep stress under control.

By being aware of the symptoms of stress and actively working on healthy coping mechanisms, you can better control stress and improve your overall well-being.
